Reseller hosting

A business model where a provider sells server resources to a third party, who then resells them to end clients as their own hosting service.

Reseller hosting is a service model where an account owner rents server resources from a parent hosting company to sell them to third parties. The reseller functions as an independent service provider, handling billing and first-line support, while the parent host manages the physical hardware and network infrastructure.

How it works

The upstream provider grants the reseller access to a management interface, typically WebHost Manager (WHM). Within this environment, the reseller allocates specific amounts of disk space, bandwidth, and CPU limits to create custom hosting plans. Each end-user is provided with a separate control panel, such as cPanel or Plesk, to manage their individual web files and databases.

This approach is widely used by web developers and agencies to host multiple client websites under one umbrella. It provides a recurring revenue stream and allows for centralized management of all client assets without the overhead costs of server maintenance or data center operations.

Through White Label features, resellers can brand the service as their own. By configuring private nameservers like ns1.yourdomain.com, the identity of the actual infrastructure provider remains hidden. Professional setups often integrate WHMCS to automate account provisioning and invoicing for dozens of sub-accounts.
